  • BNY Mellon – the year kicked off with the second module of the New to Business Leader Program for newly promoted or recently hired senior leaders.  Sessions included delegation and empowerment, the art of coaching, executive presence, and leading change. 

2014

  • Marriott – working with the IT group at Marriott, we discussed both books – a morning session on What Your Boss Really Wants From You, and the keynote in the afternoon with the larger group around the concepts from Bootstrap Leadership.
  • Bank of America – last event of the year for one of my favorite clients – this one based on the content from What Your Boss Really Wants From You in Charlotte, NC.

  • Bank of America – three events in 3 days, in Charlotte and NYC.   Two live sessions based on Bootstrap Leadership, and a live webinar with high potential leaders on the power of developing their own leadership brand.
  • AOL Leadership webinars.  Four separate webinars to close out the learning season in October and November at AOL… we discussed coaching, delegation, developing your leadership brand, and What Your Boss Really Wants From You.
  • Conference Board Book Series Webinar – Julian Kaufmann moderated this well-attended national webinar for Conference Board members as we discussed What Your Boss Really Wants From You.
  • Bank of America – Midwest Commercial Lending Team.  Fort Worth, TX was the location for this small gathering of the top commercial lending leaders in the Midwest Division @ Bank of America.  Fun session where we discussed how to develop yourself into a more effective leader!
  • Marriott – leadership programs don’t get much better than this one-week program for GM’s and above property leaders at Marriott.  I lead the Friday morning closing session, and always have a great time with these motivated participants, as we walk through the concepts of Bootstrap Leadership.
  • Freddie Mac – final module of the 2014 DIRECT Program.  Topics included What Your Boss Really Wants From You, Role-Modeling the Culture, Challenging the Status Quo, and Executive Presence.  Just a great group of leaders, eager to enhance their leadership skills
  • Bank of New York Mellon – Kickoff of the inaugural New to Business Leader Program – I taught Vision, Mission & Strategy and facilitated the event w/ the talented BK University team.
  • Lockheed Martin – We filmed three short videos for use in 2015 for the Security Team, and I led the group through Developing Your Leadership Brand at their annual offsite in Denver, CO.
  • Dave Crenshaw Audio Blog – spent time on the phone with Dave Crenshaw (celebrated small business guru) taping a coaching segment for his clients around the concepts of What Your Boss Really Wants From You
  • AOL – this summer, I’ve been conducting a series of webinars for managers and leaders at AOL – topics include Developing Your Leadership Brand, Delegation & Empowerment, What Your Boss Really Wants From You, and the Art of Coaching.  These 60 or 90 minute webinars are attended by 20-25 leaders at a time, and through the power of WebEx, we use video to virtually place me in the “classroom” across the company.
  • CKNW Morning News – spent a half-hour with the anchors of this Toronto radio station doing a live interview about What Your Boss Really Wants From You
  • Marriott – back to the Eastern Shore of Maryland to talk leadership with a group of senior leaders who run properties for Marriott.  Always an engaging session with leaders who are dedicated to improving their leadership game!
  • Discover – delivered Developing Your Leadership Brand to high potential leaders in Chicago.  This group is serious about soliciting and using feedback from others to make themselves better leaders.
  • Chesterfield County Chamber of Commerce – Richmond, VA was the location for this terrific event sponsored by the Chamber development committee.  We had 215 people from all levels of business learning about their leadership brand, and how to take it to the next level.  It was great to speak to such a varied audience!

  • Prince William County – an opportunity to give back.  This pro-bono workshop was conducted for a PWC Criminal Justice Academy audience in Manassas, VA.

  • Ashland – the specialty chemicals company hosted Bootstrap Leadership in Columbus, Ohio – where I worked with a terrific group of leaders to work on improving their leadership skills.

  • Boeing – An evening keynote address for a collection of Boeing leadership development program participants at their beautiful Leadership Development Center in St. Louis, MO.
  • Georgetown University – Bringing the concept of self-development to a group of undergraduates. We talked about working for good and bad bosses when they get into the workforce, and the power of continuous learning.

  • Northern Virginia SHRM – In this Arlington, VA session, we discussed how HR professionals can help leaders do more to develop as people managers.
  • Leadership Excellence – The second article from the book (People Leadership: Ask Your People 5 Questions) was published in the November, 2010 issue.
  • DirecTV – As part of a new leadership development program, I delivered a Bootstrap Leadership session for senior leaders in Los Angeles, CA.
  • MHS – A workshop for global leaders from this nonprofit international health organization located in Washington, DC.
  • Outlook Business (India) – My first article about Bootstrap Leadership in a non-US publication. Outlook Business is similar in scope to Business Week or Fortune magazine.
  • Agilent – A live webinar event, broadcast once for domestic leaders and again for international managers. A well-planned production that included senior Agilent leaders.
  • CarMax – Two interactive Bootstrap Leadership workshops with 150 leaders in Richmond, VA. We talked about the commitment and focused required to develop your leadership skills.
  • Allstate – A keynote address to Allstate’s top leadership team, and an afternoon session with a group of emerging leaders to provide tips and ideas for continuing their leadership development.
  • AOL – An intimate group of AOL leaders in Dulles, VA. We had some great conversations about leading change, applying the lessons of Bootstrap Leadership.
  • Lockheed Martin – Two hundred leaders from the Security group plus a beautiful auditorium made for a special keynote event in Bethesda, MD.
  • Dimension Data – A three hour leadership retreat in Annapolis, MD. The participants were highly engaged; we had a great time exploring ways to improve as leaders.
  • Executive Networks – This webinar was conducted interview-style with Mike Dullworth, CEO of Executive Networks, a corporate best practices group specializing in HR topics.
  • UBS – Two sessions in New York, NY and Stamford, CT for emerging leaders who were in a series of self-development courses, one of which featured the tips and ideas from Bootstrap Leadership.
  • Genworth – An engaging session in Richmond, VA with the senior HR team. Using the book, we discussed the best ways to get leaders onto a consistent leadership development path.
  • Leesburg SHRM – An opportunity to speak about the book with a local HR networking group, in Leesburg, VA.
  • Duke CE – The premier provider of customized leadership development programs invited me to speak to a group of their developers about Bootstrap Leadership in Durham, NC.
  • SkillSoft Leadership Forum – SkillSoft hosts a number of regional forums for their clients; this one, in Reston, VA, featured a highly interactive discussion of Bootstrap Leadership.
  • Japanese & Chinese Publication Rights – Berrett-Koehler sold the foreign publishing rights to Bootstrap Leadership to two companies who will translate and distribute the book in 2011.
  • Leadership Excellence – I’ve written many articles for Leadership Excellence magazine – this one, titled 5 Ways to Make Yourself a Better Leader (May, 2010), was the first to feature concepts directly from Bootstrap Leadership.

2009

  • Lockheed Martin – This “virtual” tour of the book was presented to Lockheed Martin’s global HR and OD team in a 90 minute webinar.
  • MicroStrategy – At their annual conference of international HR professionals in Washington, DC, I outlined the power of helping leaders “self-develop” using the tips and techniques from Bootstrap Leadership.
  • Executive Forum – The first keynote address featuring concepts and exercises from the book was delivered to a group of senior business leaders in Stamford, CT.
  • SkillSoft – At a TV studio in Alexandria, VA, we made a video of Bootstrap Leadership for SkillSoft, the online learning company. Featured on SkillSoft Leadership Development Center, the video can be accessed by employees in subscriber companies worldwide.
